What advice would you give a high school student who is about to go to college?
Last year I was faced with the difficult decision of choosing a career; luckily my parents have always supported me and let me be free to make my own decisions, so when I realized I wanted to study design, they were the first to support me with my decision and encourage me to achieve my goal, however, not everyone has the same luck as me.
I will tell you the story of a close friend: This friend was in the same situation as me. He liked everything related to cooking since he was a child, so his career decision was gastronomy, however, when he told his parents, they didn't support him because "gastronomy is not a career that pays money", so they encouraged him to study engineering because this would "ensure his future".
My friend followed his parents' advice and went into an engineering degree, in which he lasted a year because it clearly wasn't his thing. He finally abandoned engineering and followed his heart: gastronomy.
My biggest advice to someone who is about to go to college is to follow your heart, don't look for a career for money, but look for what you are really passionate about, because ultimately what matters is what you want, not what others think is good for you.
hi, I totally agree with you, one should follow his heart to choose a career, I hope your friend has a lot of success starting his new career.
ResponderEliminarI'm glad your friend made the decision to study what he likes, sometimes parents want the best for us and take the wrong steps. Money is not everything!
ResponderEliminarI love what you say, in times like these it is essential to follow your heart when making decisions as important as what you want to dedicate yourself to, at the same time, choosing a career does not have to end there, there is always the option of doing other things, with time we change and we must also learn to accept that we like other things.
ResponderEliminarHi, I hope your friend can now be very happy with what he is studying. It's a big change between engineering and gastronomy :0
ResponderEliminarHello! I am glad that your friend can study gastronomy, I also consider that we should study or dedicate ourselves to what we really like... is the best decision!
ResponderEliminarHello, I think this is a very interesting blog. I´m so sorry for your friend, and I share your idea of following your hearth when you have to choose a career or major.
ResponderEliminarI passed for a similare situation, at the moment to choose a career for pressure I decided for some what I had no idea what was, but for be a economic career I thought what earn money could be the solution but I was wrong in my opinion is better study some what you like it over some what give money. Like you said follow the heart.
